Somatics
In The Workplace
What Is Somatics?
Somatics describes practices that uses the mind-body connection to help you survey your internal self and listen to signals your body sends about areas of pain, discomfort, or imbalance.
Practising somatics at work can help manage stress, relieve anxiety, improve posture, increase flexibility and reduce stiffness and aches.
How Does It Work?
Our technique focuses on conscious Pandiculation.
Pandiculation is generally defined as the act of stretching oneself and yawning, especially upon waking.
Muscles throughout the body are carefully contracted and slowly relaxed to imitate the body’s natural Pandicular response.
This helps you release chronic tension by retraining your nervous system to understand what resting muscles feel like
For a more detailed explanation of why pandiculation works better than stretching please see the blog post

Try It Here
Welcome to your first somatic Pod-Class
It will talk you through a short physical meditation and then a easy pandiculation to help you reduce tension in your shoulders and neck, by releasing the trapezius muscle. It will also explain how the Pod-classes are structured so that you can get the most out of future classes.
Can It Improve Mental Health?
Exercises is known to produce endorphins, decrease overall levels of tension, elevate and stabilise mood, improve sleep, and build self-esteem.
So its safe to say, that what the body is doing effects the mind.
When you get stuck in a prolonged period of stress your muscles tense up, if they remain tense for too long then they can begin to cause the feelings of anxiety creating a vicious cycle.
Bringing your attention into your body and learning to listen to the signals it’s sending you is key to mastering the physical side of anxiety, once you’re aware of when you’ve slipped into stressful patterns you can quickly respond to counteract the negative effects.
